The Begining

After the monster long checkin process on Day 0, Day 1 greeted the riders and crew with an unknown world.

The 80 mile first day was the toughest day for me.

The freezing rain, and failing pedal kept me worried all day (see daily jog for more info).

Day 1, Monday 6/15/98.  Ride out, through downtown.  It was very exciting, having so many riders together, and getting police escorts around traffic.

Day 1, Monday 6/15/98.  Some old interesting looking trains.  I think I stopped here also to fix my pedal.

Day 1, Monday 6/15/98.  That's Ej in front of me.  The sign on the back of EJ's bent reads "Please push, I didn't train."

Day 1, Monday 6/15/98.  It was cold in camp that first night.  Everyone was pretty tired and worried about the rest of the trip. image by GTE
